Coal : Coal is powerful and we have a lot of it.

In Melbourne Australia there is a tourist train called "Puffin Billy". It is Al Gore's nightmare. It uses coal to create steam that pushes the little train along the track while belching out black coal smoke that makes all the locals cough and turns their roofs black with soot. The USA has vast reserves of coal. Our modern electric plants can use coal as a fuel cleanly and in tune with the environment. N1R needs coal to generate the vast amounts of electrical power needed to free hydrogen from water. Currently most hydrogen in the USA is produced from methane CH4 and natural gas. These solutions would ultimately deplete the oxygen in our atmosphere. Electrolysis liberates perfectly balanced hydrogen and oxygen atoms. We need coal generated electricity to create hydrogen. Only coal and nuclear power have the strength to create electricity in the massive kilowatts needed. Obviously we don't want to go back to using coal driven steam engines for transportation. But we certainly need clean coal technology to create the electricity needed for hydrogen production.
